Ten minutes with Melinda
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a lifelong commitment to learning, adaptability, and servant leadership. By embracing new opportunities, cultivating meaningful relationships, and remaining focused on helping organizations achieve their goals, I have continued to grow professionally while creating a lasting, positive impact in education and the communities I serve. I believe that effective leadership is rooted in collaboration, continuous improvement, and an unwavering commitment to serving others with integrity and purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is, "Stay curious and never stop learning." That simple principle has guided every stage of my professional journey. From human resources and consulting to education technology, entrepreneurship, and public service, my greatest opportunities have come from embracing change, pursuing continuous learning, and stepping beyond my comfort zone. I believe that growth begins with curiosity, and the willingness to learn, adapt, and lead with purpose has enabled me to make a meaningful impact on the organizations and communities I serve.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women pursuing careers in education technology or human resources is to believe in your abilities, stay curious, and commit to lifelong learning. Don't be afraid to embrace opportunities that challenge you or take you beyond your comfort zone. Some of the most rewarding experiences in my career—from serving in public education and global human resources to partnering with school districts across the nation—have come from saying "yes" to new challenges and remaining open to growth.
I also encourage women to invest in meaningful relationships, seek out mentors, and never underestimate the value of their unique voice and perspective. Advocate for yourself with confidence, remain resilient through setbacks, and view every experience as an opportunity to learn and grow. Success is rarely a straight path, but perseverance, integrity, and a willingness to adapt will open doors you never imagined.
Most importantly, stay true to your values and lead with purpose. When you focus on serving others, building strong partnerships, and making a positive impact, your influence extends far beyond your career—it strengthens organizations, empowers future leaders, and creates lasting change in the communities you serve.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in education technology today is empowering school districts to leverage data and technology more effectively to support student success, strengthen operational efficiency, and enhance the overall educational experience. As districts continue to navigate increasing demands with limited resources, innovative technology solutions can help streamline processes, improve decision-making, and allow educators and administrators to focus more time and energy on their most important mission—serving students.
At the same time, one of the greatest challenges facing education technology is managing constant change. School districts must continuously adapt to evolving regulations, workforce demands, cybersecurity challenges, and the growing expectations of their communities. Successful technology implementation requires much more than selecting the right software; it requires thoughtful change management, comprehensive training, and strong partnerships that build confidence and ensure sustainable success.
From my perspective, the greatest opportunity lies in bridging the gap between technology and people. Technology is most powerful when it is paired with the right support, training, and collaboration. When districts have the tools, knowledge, and partnerships needed to succeed, they can operate more effectively, make informed decisions, and remain focused on what matters most—creating opportunities for students and strengthening the communities they serve.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me both professionally and personally are integrity, service, continuous learning, and the power of relationships. I believe effective leadership begins with treating others with respect, taking accountability for my actions, and honoring the commitments I make to those I serve.
Throughout my career in public education, human resources, education technology, and entrepreneurship, I have been driven by a commitment to serve others and create meaningful impact. Whether I am supporting school district leaders through technology solutions, serving as an elected school board trustee, or leading my own business, I strive to build trust, empower others, and create opportunities for growth and success.
I also believe that lifelong learning and adaptability are essential qualities for effective leadership. Embracing change, seeking new perspectives, and continuously developing my skills have allowed me to grow personally and professionally while taking on new challenges and opportunities.
Above all, I believe strong relationships are the foundation of lasting success. By fostering collaboration, building trust, and connecting with others through purpose and shared goals, we can create stronger organizations, better communities, and a lasting positive impact.
