Melissa Adkins is a Human Resources Administrator at Myers Controlled Power, LLC, where she partners with organizational leaders to foster a compliant, employee-centered workplace while supporting strategic business objectives. With a strong background in employee relations, performance management, policy administration, and regulatory compliance, she is recognized for her ability to navigate complex workplace matters with professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment. Her expertise includes Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) administration, attendance management, workplace investigations, unemployment claims, and the consistent application of employment policies to minimize organizational risk while promoting a positive workplace culture.
Melissa has built a progressive career in human resources through roles of increasing responsibility across manufacturing and customer service industries. Prior to joining Myers Controlled Power, she served as a Human Resources Assistant at Kovatch Castings Inc. and held multiple leadership and human resources positions at InfoCision Management Corporation, including Human Resources Coordinator, Senior Program Supervisor, and Program Supervisor. These experiences strengthened her leadership, employee coaching, talent development, and operational management capabilities, enabling her to effectively balance organizational goals with employee engagement and development.
A graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Studies and Criminal Justice, Melissa is committed to continuous professional growth and lifelong learning. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and has completed professional training in recruiting, workplace safety, and human resources best practices. Guided by a people-first philosophy, Melissa believes that while policies provide structure, empathy and respect are essential to effective leadership. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of perseverance, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Throughout my career, I have remained focused on building strong relationships, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, and consistently delivering results with professionalism and accountability. I believe that success is achieved through hard work, adaptability, and a willingness to collaborate with others while maintaining a customer- and solution-oriented mindset. Most importantly, staying true to my values, remaining resilient in the face of obstacles, and striving for excellence in every endeavor have been the key factors driving my personal and professional achievements.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is, "We're all human never lose the human side of what you do." Working in human resources often requires balancing policies, procedures, and organizational objectives, but this advice has reminded me that every decision ultimately affects people. It reinforced the importance of leading with empathy, compassion, and respect while maintaining fairness and professionalism. I've learned that it's okay to acknowledge emotions, whether it's sadness, disappointment, or joy, because recognizing our shared humanity fosters trust, strengthens relationships, and creates a more supportive and inclusive workplace.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the human resources profession is to believe in your abilities and never underestimate what you can achieve with determination and preparation. Seek opportunities to connect with reputable organizations, build meaningful relationships with human resources professionals, and don't hesitate to ask questions and learn from experienced mentors. Invest in your education through a bachelor's degree, professional certifications, or other relevant training to strengthen your knowledge and credibility. Most importantly, remain curious, continue developing your skills, and approach every opportunity with confidence, professionalism, and a willingness to grow.
