About Melissa
Melissa Cashen serves as the HR manager for an agricultural operation in Tipton, California. In this role, she manages the safety department, including workers' compensation claims and OSHA regulations, as well as payroll, the onboarding process, health benefits, and overall compliance for approximately 2,000 employees. She brings five years of human resources experience to the position, having previously worked in operations where she handled staff training and new hire processes, and earlier in finance at Chase. Originally from Mexico, Cashen earned her bachelor's degree in business administration there and is currently completing an agriculture certificate in human resources, with an expected graduation in January. She takes pride in building relationships and helping staff achieve their goals through training and promotions. Cashen credits her professional success to her discipline and work ethic, emphasizing the importance of leading by example. She advises young women entering the field to follow their passion, learn their niche, and build lasting relationships.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think… I would say… Discipline? Work ethic? I value what I do, and I try to be the best example for the people that I work with. It's like, you know, if I cannot expect from other people to do better if I don't do better, right? So I like to lead with example.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say… Just, just follow your passion, learn your… Learn, your niche, like, you know, like, also… make sure to build relationships. I think that's something that has helped me the most as well. Every person that I encounter with, we usually stay in touch, and that helps you also in your career.
