Melissa Clay
Melissa Clay is an accomplished business professional, author, and creative freelancer with more than eighteen years of experience in the healthcare industry. Her career has been rooted primarily in administrative and patient access roles, where she has supported major healthcare organizations including Riley Children’s Hospital, St. Vincent Carmel, Community Health Network, and Indiana University Dermatology. Over the years, Melissa has managed complex medical records processes, supported providers with transcription and dictation issues, coordinated multi-site operations, and trained and supervised teams of up to twenty-five people. Her adaptability and commitment to excellence allowed her to hold multiple roles—from file clerk to secretary to interim manager—while working with more than fifty physicians and navigating both paper and electronic medical record systems.
In addition to her extensive healthcare career, Melissa has pursued meaningful work outside the clinical setting. She earned a bachelor’s degree in General Studies from Indiana University Northwest, where she made the Dean’s List, and completed significant coursework at the Kelley School of Business with a focus on marketing and distribution management. Melissa also holds a health insurance license and worked as an Aflac agent, helping business owners open new accounts. Her passion for education and service led her to volunteer as a Junior Achievement teacher, instructing third graders for a semester, and to speak in her community to help students prepare for college.
Today, Melissa channels her creativity into authorship, freelance writing, voice-over work, and executive production. Since 2017, she has written books for herself and others, crafted scripts for film, and explored new avenues in digital storytelling. Whether in healthcare, education, or the arts, Melissa’s career reflects a deep dedication to learning, leadership, and creating meaningful impact across every space she enters.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my willingness to reinvent myself, embrace new challenges, and follow the things that genuinely bring me joy. I’ve learned to see every setback as a stepping stone, guided by my grandmother’s reminder to never “live my life on an IF”—and that mindset has pushed me to grow, create, and help others at every stage of my journey.
