She values running her business with honesty and integrity, even when it means earning a smaller commission, and finds fulfillment in mentoring other women in the field.

Ten minutes with Melissa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say finding a mentor or somebody that can teach you is very important. My mentor was a lady named Veronica Attlee. When she found me, I was in the residential world, and she taught me commercial, which is a very male-dominated field. We went out there and I feel like we've made names for ourselves and gained a lot of respect, especially in the car wash sector of commercial real estate.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I think that doing something that you love because time is short and life is short. If you're doing something that makes you miserable that's just not a great way to live. Picking a career path that you can be happy with and get out of bed for.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Being in a male-dominated industry that sometimes can be a little bit challenging. The competitiveness of commercial real estate in general. There's a lot of brokers out there so just setting yourself apart and making yourself memorable and doing proper marketing is important but definitely can be challenging.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Doing what's right by people is most important. Running your business with honesty and integrity is the only way. Always doing what's right even if it means making a little less on a commission.
