Her Story
About Melissa
I help small and medium-sized businesses integrate AI into their processes, with my main area of expertise being automation - taking repetitive tasks and automating them. I launched my business in January 2026 and became a certified AI consultant in April 2026 through an internationally accredited program. The certification took a few months and was strenuous, not difficult, just a lot of information. A typical day for me involves lead generation to find new clients since I'm fairly new in the industry, client follow-ups, and one-on-one workshops with clients. Prior to starting my AI consulting business, I worked in sales and management in the health insurance industry. I've always been interested in tech - my first major out of high school was computer information systems because I thought I was going to be a computer programmer. I was building a program and couldn't break the loop, so I decided to walk away from it and changed my major. But I've always had an interest in how computers work, data analytics, and all those things. When AI came around and I saw how easy it was to get the output and the information I was looking for, I was sold right away on it.

Ten minutes with Melissa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would have to say my own drive and determination, wanting more, and my faith. There are so many things that help shape me professionally, but those are the core elements I attribute my success to.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say don't be afraid to just step out and do it, or learn it. Be strong, be encouraged, and learn as much as you can. I'm the type of person who will take on a job that nobody else wants to do, because of the advantages that I feel I would get from that - being a subject matter expert, or just being the person to take on the challenge. So don't be afraid to step out and take on those challenges.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge right now is AI adoption - getting people to not be afraid of it, but to embrace it and learn it, especially in Black and brown communities. But there's a huge opportunity because AI is so new. There are opportunities to teach, to consult - there are so many opportunities in this field right now.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are honesty, integrity, and loyalty. They are kind of intertwined in both my work and personal life.
