Her Story

About Melissa

I recently opened a home caregiving non-medical office in Richmond with Cornerstone Caregiving. We provide non-medical care and layer with home health and hospice to help seniors stay at home as long as possible. My background includes 23 years selling new homes in Florida after community college and real estate license, then senior living. I focus on building relationships and bridging gaps in care. I attribute my success to a heart for serving others, prayer, and putting God first.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Melissa

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have a heart for serving other people. I grew up seeing my parents serve others through Special Olympics and Habitat for Humanity. I don't make a decision without prayer and guidance from God. I put God first, then others second, and myself last. That has led me to fulfillment and beautiful relationships.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Just do right. Be honest and never compromise who you are or what you believe in for numbers or budgets. Lead with your character. My uncle told me I have a God-given talent in sales and relationships but that comes with great responsibility to hold true to who I am.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The number one thing is to never put anyone else in a situation that you wouldn't put your own grandmother in. I have always had a servant's heart and see it as a blessing to serve others. If it's not the right fit, refer them out.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The gaps in care between departments, specialties, and facilities. Everyone needs to work together more for easier transitions and referrals. I'm determined to bridge those gaps and make it better for everyone.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity and honesty. Doing what you say you're going to do and following through. Especially important in this field where families trust you with their loved ones.
