About Melissa
Melissa Renee Juan is a seasoned banking professional with more than two decades of experience and currently serves as an SVP Business Controls Manager at Bank of America. Her career has included diverse roles spanning sales, title litigation, regulatory affairs, the Office of the President, and social media servicing. This broad experience has given her a well-rounded understanding of banking operations, client service, regulatory requirements, and risk management. Melissa earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Administration and Management from California State University, Northridge, graduating in 2010. Throughout her education and career, she balanced full-time employment with her studies and other responsibilities, embracing continuous learning as an essential part of professional growth. In her current role, she focuses on audit risks, process controls, and proactive risk mitigation across contact centers and multiple product lines, helping strengthen business operations and manage organizational risk. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Melissa is committed to leadership, mentorship, diversity, and community involvement. Her contributions have been recognized with the 2024 Global Diversity and Inclusion Award and the Pinnacle Award, which recognizes top-performing employees within the bank. She also serves as vice chair of Bank of America volunteers for the Los Angeles market and held leadership roles with the Hispanic Organization of Leadership and Advancement, where she supports mentorship and diversity initiatives. I attribute my success to my mindset, curiosity, strong relationships, and commitment to growth. I strive to stay engaged in meaningful work, make an impact, learn from others, and pay that support forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to stay true to who I am, recognize my strengths, and find an environment that values them rather than changing myself to fit in.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to speak up, share your ideas, and trust your voice. Develop strong communication skills, know your subject matter, and once you’ve done the work, have confidence in your knowledge and perspective.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field is staying adaptable as laws, regulations, economic conditions, and regulatory expectations continue to evolve. I believe agility and staying informed are essential to understanding current requirements while preparing for what comes next.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are respect, genuine relationships, and treating others the way I want to be treated. I strive to be dependable, build authentic connections, and never burn bridges, both personally and professionally.
