Her Story
About Melissa
I am a pharmaceutical quality professional with over 20 years of experience in the industry, beginning my career in 2005 immediately after graduating college in a site-level position. Over time, I advanced through the quality organization by building deep expertise in compliance, regulatory expectations, and operational excellence. My academic foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Spanish, which has supported my ability to engage effectively across scientific, technical, and global environments.
In my current role as a Global Quality Auditor, I conduct audits at manufacturing sites across our global network to ensure adherence to internal quality systems as well as compliance with global standards and health authority regulations. My work focuses on assessing quality systems, identifying risks, and supporting continuous improvement across diverse operational settings. I am committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and patient safety throughout the product lifecycle.
In addition to my auditing responsibilities, I serve as Chair of the Inspection, Risk and Compliance Council, where I review audit outcomes and regulatory intelligence to strengthen organizational readiness and risk management strategies. I am also currently participating in a leadership development program at the Wharton School, further enhancing my ability to lead with strategic insight and impact. Throughout my career, I have remained dedicated to advancing quality, strengthening compliance frameworks, and supporting the delivery of safe and effective medicines to patients worldwide.

Ten minutes with Melissa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I credit my parents with providing a strong foundation of values, character, and perseverance that has guided me throughout my life. I have also been fortunate to learn from mentors and leaders who challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone, embrace new opportunities, and pursue growth beyond what I initially thought possible. Their encouragement and belief in my potential helped shape my confidence, expand my perspective, and inspire me to continuously learn, evolve, and take on new challenges.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I believe in embracing new opportunities and challenging myself to step beyond my comfort zone. I am not afraid to try new things, take calculated risks, and put myself out there, knowing that personal and professional growth often comes from experiences that stretch our abilities and perspectives. By remaining open to learning, adapting, and exploring new possibilities, I continue to expand my impact and discover opportunities for growth and innovation.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I recognize that many of the fields and spaces I work within have traditionally been male-dominated. Rather than allowing that reality to discourage me, I have remained committed to working hard, speaking confidently, and leading with courage and authenticity. I believe it is important to embrace who I am, trust in the value of my voice and perspective, and never diminish myself to fit the expectations of others. By showing up boldly and unapologetically, I create opportunities not only for my own growth but also for those who will follow.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges I have faced is navigating large organizations with many moving parts while working to align diverse stakeholders around shared goals and objectives. Fostering effective communication, collaboration, and cross-functional partnerships across departments requires intentional relationship-building, strategic coordination, and adaptability. Additionally, staying current with rapidly evolving technology and ensuring its effective integration into organizational processes has required a commitment to continuous learning and innovation. These experiences have strengthened my ability to lead through complexity, build consensus, and drive collaboration in dynamic environments.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I strive to maintain a healthy balance between my professional responsibilities and family life while ensuring that my actions align with the values and guidance I share with others. Practicing what I preach is important to me, particularly when it comes to well-being, resilience, and purpose-driven work. I am deeply motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives, whether through helping individuals access critical resources, supporting healthcare initiatives that deliver life-saving medications, or contributing to efforts that improve the health and well-being of communities.
