About Melissa
Melissa Nieves is the Director of Outreach and Integration at La Casa De Salud in Bronx, New York. She began her tenure with the agency in 2017 as a hepatitis C linkage to care specialist, where she supported providers and patients through hepatitis C treatment and helped over 300 individuals achieve a cure. In her current role, which she has held for four years, she oversees multiple outreach programs that connect community members to primary care, mental health services, harm reduction, wound care, educational sessions, and screenings for mental health, social determinants of health, substance use, HIV, and hepatitis C, followed by linkage to appropriate services. She also leads the Bronx Opiate Collective Impact Project and builds strategic partnerships and community integration efforts. Melissa earned a bachelor's degree in public health from Monroe College in 2013. She is actively involved in the Hepatitis C Coalition and serves on the Bronx News Committee. In 2019, she received the New York State Department of Health Commissioner's Special Recognition Award for her contributions in the HIV field. One of her proudest achievements has been building out the outreach department into a robust team that serves homeless individuals and those with mental health and substance use disorders while fostering relationships with residents and businesses.
