About Melissa
Melissa Slade owns and operates an insurance agency focused on health and retirement insurance, life insurance, Medicaid, and state benefits. She entered the insurance field in 2010 while running a home health agency with her mother, initially to support patients, and expanded her work into the broader community. In 2020 she founded her own agency, which now includes 10 agents under her management across offices in Lake Jackson and Houston, Texas. Slade maintains a busy schedule that includes office appointments, retail locations such as Walgreens, seminars, and assistance with applications for food stamps and other state programs. She is particularly committed to advocating for low-income clients and spends Thursdays in Tomball helping homeless veterans obtain insurance and benefits at U.S. Vets. Her approach emphasizes meeting each client's unique needs, maintaining a broad portfolio of options, and staying consistent in her self-driven practice.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Take it one day at a time.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You have to have a heart for the people. You have to be self-driven. And if you stay consistent, you will be successful and you will create a good future for yourself and your family.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is trying to meet the need of every client because each one has a different need. Especially with the state, I have to be an advocate for my low-income clients because sometimes the state does make mistakes. Health insurance can be very complicated for anyone, and the challenge is for me to find what they need that fits their budget.
