Her Story
About Melissa
I have been in this field over 22 years. Right now I am a sleep expert with Sleep Number and just won the Presidential Award for 2025 ranking number 9 out of 300 stores for top sales. My job involves admin and merchandising but mainly curating experiences for guests having trouble sleeping using my medical background to help with pain and comfort. Before this I was a custom designer designing jewelry for 11 years which allowed me to use my creative side as an abstract artist with my own business. I have had college and on-the-job training but life and the school of hard knocks have taught me the most about being adaptable and a problem solver.

Ten minutes with Melissa
01What do you attribute your success to?
My faith in God is everything. He is my guiding force and strength. When I was sleeping in a van with my four kids being homeless God helped me keep it together knowing He's got me and I don't have to worry.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Always be adaptable always be willing to learn something new every day so that way you can never become stagnant and you're always something that a company will want if you can grow with them.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Find a mentor someone that can take you under their wing. Listen to them make sure that you make it your own of course but just glean that information. Study what the business is about then make it adaptable and then just outwork everyone. Find what drives you and then just make it a goal that I'm gonna work outwork everybody.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The economy is the biggest obstacle right now. The company filed bankruptcy recently due to overextending debt during COVID. People don't have money to spend on high-end items even though they need the quality and most are working two or three jobs to make ends meet.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is key both personal and professional. Fairness treating employees with fairness work-life balance honesty and recognizing accomplishments whether small or big acknowledging that people are doing great things.
