Melissa Stringfellow

Business Operations Specialist
New Port Richey, FL

I’ve always been someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, especially when it comes to learning new tools and platforms and handling backend processes. I’m particularly drawn to the technical side of things, including coding, automation, and building workflows.

What ultimately led me to this field was the opportunity to create efficient systems and streamline operations. Initially, I was more focused on graphic design—which I still value—but over time, I discovered a strong interest in backend work, technical support, and process automation. That shift allowed me to align more closely with what I genuinely enjoy and where I add the most value.

I take pride in helping teams operate more efficiently by reducing manual tasks and implementing smarter workflows, while still recognizing the importance of human oversight. I’m a self-starter, highly goal-oriented, and I’ve built my expertise through a combination of my background in Graphic Design and continuous, hands-on learning.

Working in operations has also strengthened my ability to think quickly and solve problems effectively in fast-paced environments.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I stay focused and keep moving forward, even when things are challenging. I take the time to process situations, but once I do, I act on what needs to be done. I believe consistency is key—if you stop pushing forward, it becomes much harder to make progress.

I consider myself a dedicated and hardworking person. Interestingly, I learned that my name, Melissa, means “honeybee,” which is often associated with diligence and accomplishment. That symbolism resonates with me, as I’m very goal-oriented and committed to pushing forward and getting results.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received came from two leaders I’ve worked with. One of my bosses taught me the importance of not engaging when someone is giving you a hard time. In any workplace, there will always be challenging personalities, and learning to stay focused and not react emotionally is a skill that protects both your professionalism and your peace of mind. While it can be tempting to respond when you feel provoked, choosing not to engage has proven to be far more effective.

Another piece of advice that has stayed with me came from a manager early in my career. When I was eager to become faster in a new role, he reminded me to focus on quality first—because once you master the work, speed naturally follows. That perspective shaped how I approach new opportunities.

Because of these experiences, my advice to others is simple: don’t rush the learning process. Take the time to fully understand your role, prioritize doing the work well, and efficiency will come with experience.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice for anyone new to the industry is not to rush the learning process. Focus on understanding the job first. Early in my career, I wanted to become fast at my role right away, but a manager taught me an important lesson: prioritize quality first, and speed will naturally follow.

In addition to mastering your work, success also depends on integrity, hard work, and being goal-oriented. Strong communication skills are equally important, as they allow you to collaborate effectively and achieve your objectives efficiently.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Previously, I worked as an Operations Specialist, but due to funding cuts, my position was eliminated. During my time in that role, I discovered how much I enjoy training and developing others, and I gained experience creating SOPs and training videos. Because of this, I see opportunities as a trainer or manager as an ideal next step for me. I find it rewarding to help others learn, improve their skills, and succeed in their roles.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I am a hard worker, and integrity is one of my core values. Interestingly, my name, Melissa, means “honeybee,” which my mom’s Mary Kay consulting team explained is a symbol of diligence and accomplishment. This symbolism resonates with me, as I am very goal-oriented and committed to approaching everything I do—with honesty and integrity—both professionally and personally.
