About Melissa
With 16 years of experience in the events industry, I specialize in strategic leadership, event operations, and organizational vision. I currently oversee the strategic direction of Imaging USA, the largest photography event in the world, ensuring the convention aligns seamlessly with the broader goals and long-term vision of the organization as a whole.
A significant part of my role includes financial stewardship, where I manage a multi-million dollar annual event budget with a strong focus on accountability, efficiency, and responsible use of member resources. I also lead contract negotiations and play an active role in organizational leadership, collaborating closely with our CEO and Board of Directors to support strategic initiatives that strengthen and grow our membership community.
As part of the leadership team, I help guide operational strategy across the organization while also supporting my team’s day-to-day success through project oversight, timeline management, and cross-department collaboration. My work centers on ensuring that large-scale initiatives move forward with clarity, purpose, and measurable impact.
Beyond my professional responsibilities, I am also a full-time mom — a role that is both incredibly demanding and deeply rewarding. Balancing leadership, family, and personal growth has shaped my perspective, strengthened my resilience, and reinforced the importance of leading with both intention and empathy.

Ten minutes with Melissa
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute much of my success to perseverance and the work ethic that was instilled in me at a very young age. I started working when I was 14 years old, and from the beginning, my parents taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and earning the things I wanted in life. If I wanted a car, spending money, or something beyond the basics, I learned quickly that it would take dedication, sacrifice, and determination to achieve it.
Those lessons shaped the person and leader I am today. I work hard for the things I value, approach opportunities with gratitude, and carry a strong sense of accountability in both my professional and personal life. More than anything, I hope to instill those same values of resilience, humility, and hard work in my daughter as she grows.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
One of the most impactful pieces of advice I’ve ever received came from my grandfather during a pivotal point in my life and career. At a time when I felt uncertain about whether I was progressing toward the goals I had set for myself, he told me, “Never stop reaching for the golden ring.” It became a mindset that has stayed with me throughout my personal and professional journey.
That advice taught me the importance of perseverance, ambition, and staying focused on the bigger picture, even when the path forward feels challenging. I believe it’s important to continually align yourself with whatever your own “golden ring” may be and to keep striving toward it with intention, resilience, and purpose.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
One principle I try to live and lead by is: be firm, but be fair. I believe it’s important to stand confidently in your decisions and ensure they align with your values, ethics, and integrity. At the same time, true leadership requires fairness, empathy, and respect for the people around you.
Whether in business or in life, I strive to lead with consistency, accountability, and compassion — remaining grounded in what I believe while also making thoughtful, fair decisions that positively impact those I work with and care about.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities in our industry right now is the ability to evolve and grow while still remaining deeply connected to the needs of our membership community. The events and photography industries are changing rapidly — from technology and education to how people connect and do business — and I think that creates an exciting opportunity to reimagine what the future can look like.
For me, growth isn’t just about making something bigger; it’s about making it more meaningful and impactful. As we continue to elevate our events and organizational initiatives to the next level, it’s incredibly important that we stay grounded in the reason we exist in the first place: to serve, support, and create value for our members.
I’m excited about the opportunity to innovate, think strategically, and help shape the future of our organization in ways that strengthen our community while continuing to honor the relationships and trust that have built it over time.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, are integrity, accountability, perseverance, and compassion. I believe in working hard, leading with honesty, and staying true to the commitments and responsibilities I take on. Whether I’m managing large-scale organizational initiatives, supporting my team, or raising my daughter, I try to approach everything with intention, consistency, and a strong sense of responsibility.
I also place a high value on relationships and treating people with fairness and respect. In my professional life, that means making thoughtful decisions that not only support organizational growth, but also create meaningful value for our members and the people around me. Personally, it means being present for my family, leading by example, and instilling the importance of hard work, gratitude, and resilience in my daughter.
Above all, I believe success is most meaningful when it’s built with integrity and when you can positively impact others along the way.
