Her Interview
Ten minutes with Melody
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a servant leadership style focused on helping others, particularly women, develop their professional presence through gentle and subtle guidance rather than forceful command. My mentor Janet Raybon shaped this approach by showing me how quiet, consistent positivity can be its own form of power at Total System. I also credit Maribel Delgado, whose thoughtful approach to recruitment and genuine care for finding the right job fit helped me secure my position with Fiserv for showing me the importance of matching people to roles where they can truly thrive.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this field to be patient and persistent, and to commit to giving their best effort every single day. Respect and greater responsibility come with time to those who consistently show up and deliver. I'd also encourage them to place real value on hands-on training and industry soft skill courses, some of which shaped my career far more than my formal college education did.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Having worked with both major credit card processors in North America, first at Total System (now FIS) for over fifteen years and more recently with Fiserv through contract work with Allére Group and Forum Group, I see real opportunity in the shift from deep, platform-specific expertise toward building broader industry knowledge later in one's career. This kind of transition can be challenging, but it also offers a more well-rounded perspective on where the industry is headed.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Since starting my career as a temporary team member at TSYS, dedication and strong client advocacy have guided my work. I have a passion for bridging gaps in understanding throughout the different language and cultural barriers present in the fintech industry. This ranges from breaking down complex topics into more easily absorbed ideas to working within the strengths and weaknesses of every resource as each brings their unique approaches to the table.
I naturally gravitate toward mentoring others, especially women and colleagues from different cultural backgrounds, and I find real fulfillment in investing time in team members who might otherwise be overlooked for more challenging projects. That same commitment carries into my personal life: I've sponsored a child in Colombia through Compassion International for eleven years, maintaining a meaningful connection despite the language barrier, and I love bringing people together through shared crafting activities like jewelry making and floral arranging, which create space for genuine conversation and community.
