About Meredith

Meredith DeLeon serves as the HR Onboarding and Recruitment Specialist for AFC Transport, an asset and logistics-based trucking company specializing in flatbed and reefer hauling as well as third-party carrier coordination. Based in the Gary, Indiana office, she oversees recruitment and onboarding for office staff, mechanics, dispatchers, safety personnel, sales team members, carrier sales representatives, and occasionally upper-level VP and director positions. In addition to her core HR responsibilities, DeLeon plays a key role in fostering company culture by organizing events, lunches, and holiday celebrations across multiple terminals. DeLeon entered the transportation industry in 2019 after completing her bachelor's degree in business management in four years while balancing full-time work in a school cafeteria, raising four daughters, and managing personal challenges. Her background includes time as a stay-at-home mom before returning to school in 2016, where she shifted her focus from nursing to business management and HR after discovering her passion for hands-on work with people and guiding careers. She emphasizes values such as loyalty, empathy, and maintaining a positive, glass-half-full attitude, often aiming to bring smiles and sunshine to her workplace. DeLeon advises young women entering the industry not to sell themselves short and to advocate for their worth, drawing from her own experience of rebuilding her career later in life. She attributes her success to her family and the opportunity to wake up each day and push forward, embracing life's beauty despite hardships.
