Her Story
About Mia
I am currently a student at Dominican University in River Forest studying graphic design and marketing. Over the past 4 years I have developed expertise in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, branding, logo design, websites with Wix and CSS, and creating pamphlets and booklets using Excel and InDesign. I have completed internships at a small printing and press company and landed a sales internship at CDW. I also tutor graphic design students and work with civic partners like Sarah's Inn through my university.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mia
01What do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, just really networking and being myself has gotten me so far, to know a lot of people, and to know more about myself. The milestones of small opportunities I've had like with graphic design interns in small places has been really helpful.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Just to be yourself and take up as many opportunities as possible. My mentor Bill Kerr said that life is not linear, which has been impactful especially with how careers are changing with AI.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay curious, never be afraid to just ask questions. Be yourself and take up as many opportunities as possible.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
AI has been a huge challenge because people get the wrong impression that graphic design is going away, but it is not because of the human connection and interaction needed. Opportunities include how graphic design and AI can work together while keeping the human aspect.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Staying connected and knowing people, having that storytelling connection with graphic design, and implementing sustainability with design and climate action in my work.
