Her Story
About Micaela
I've always wanted to work with animals from a young age. After getting out of the military in 2022, I chased my dream by going to school at Pima Medical Institute and graduating in September 2023. I interned and got hired at my first hospital doing small clinical tasks like getting vitals and pulling vaccines. At my second hospital I trained in surgery, dental cleanings, and running anesthesia. Now at Red Rocks PetVet I'm a CVTA lead teaching assistants and technicians our SOPs, surgical pack protocols, and aseptic techniques.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Micaela
01What do you attribute your success to?
My fiance has been helpful with keeping my head on straight and keeping me positive when things are rough. She reminds me that each day is new and to take it one step at a time.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
A lot of the times, you are in your own way. And you just need to believe in yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
“The greatest pleasure in life is doing things people said I couldn’t do”- Walter Bagehot
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Finances are a big challenge because clients can't always afford the gold standard of treatment. Another challenge is misalignment between clinical needs and corporate ideals. Opportunities include continued education and cross-training for assistants, technicians, and reception staff.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, open communication, comfortability, teamwork, loyalty. We are a team and need to trust each other and have each other's backs for the animals and our singular goal.
