Her Story

About Michela

I am Vice President of third-party administration, where I handle insurance benefits for unions across the New York area, with some coverage for retirees in Florida and other states. I also serve as the broker for the company, managing both life insurance and health insurance. I started my career in customer service, answering phone calls for dental insurance, vision, and everything else. In 2017, I moved over to the brokerage side and worked my way up to where I am today. The insurance industry is rewarding, but you definitely need to put the time in. Some people think they're just going to get into a position and breeze right through, but that's not necessarily the case in insurance companies. What drives me most is the support from my family and friends, and showing them that we can make a difference in this town, in this world, not only just my family but the youth here and everybody.

Ten minutes with Michela

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the support that I get from my family and my friends. I think it's very important, because if you don't have that support, you kind of feel an emptiness, if you will. Like, you're doing it almost for nothing. What drives me most is the support from my family, and showing them that we can make a difference in this town, in this world. And not only just my family, but the youth here, everybody. That support system is what keeps me going and makes everything I do feel meaningful and worthwhile.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think the best advice is that the time you put in, you'll get what you put in. Basically, because if you don't put the time in, you're not going to get anything out of it. Some people think they're just going to get into a position and breeze right through, but that's not necessarily the case in insurance companies. You definitely need to put the time in. But it is rewarding, you know, it is a rewarding industry, but you need to put the time in definitely. The harder you work, the more you get paid. You really can curate your own destiny in this field.
