About Michele
Michele Majoumouo is a postdoctoral fellow and research manager specializing in nanotechnology applications for cancer and infectious disease research. She earned her bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Yaounde 1 in 2011 and her master's degree from the same university in 2014. She began her PhD studies in 2015, which she defended on January 27, 2022, through a collaboration between the University of Yaounde 1 and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, with her research centered on gold nanoparticles. In addition to managing an antimicrobial unit and mentoring students in cancer and antimicrobial research, she has completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cape Town and the University of Cincinnati. Her achievements include receiving the Korea International Fellowship, Organization of Women in Science Opportunities, Cumbria Research Fellowship, and CRIS fellowship in 2015. She maintains memberships in the Organization of Women in Science for Developing Countries, the African Professional Network, the Mintech Unit at the University of the Western Cape, and LACTT consulting, while providing international mentorship to students.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Research is fascinating but challenging especially as a woman in science. Work hard to build your network and enhance visibility. Research the environment and supervisor before accepting positions. Be patient and value yourself as a woman.
