Her Story

About Michele

Michele Pabon is an anti-trafficking advocate with four years of experience working directly with survivors of human trafficking, ranging from young clients to adults. Her path into advocacy was driven by her bachelor's degree in criminal justice with an emphasis in homeland security, which she earned after resuming her studies in Florida in 2014 following a pause after high school graduation in Puerto Rico in 2007.She completed the program in 2017 with graduation in 2018 from Florida Technical College, now Northridge University. Prior to advocacy, Pabon worked for three years as a TSA officer at the Orlando airport, initially in checkpoint operations and later in training roles involving explosives detection. She holds certifications as a notary for three years, along with HIPAA, child protection, NCF, and multiple field-specific trainings. Pabon participated multiple times in Florida Recovery Children with US Marshals Service operations and sting operations with the Polk County sheriff to help identify human trafficking victims. Although she has stepped away from the role temporarily for personal and family reasons, she identifies it as her passion and plans to return, with future goals including starting her own nonprofit to address needs in the field.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Michele

01What do you attribute your success to?

My faith!

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It is never too late to start. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy because we doubt ourselves a lot. When I started in school back in 2003 I had to put a pause for 10 years. It took me 10 years to start again and complete my bachelor's but I did it. After that just reaching the next step and never doubting that we're able to complete whatever we've set our minds to do. At that point the most encouraging thing was to have my kids see my accomplishment thay was not only for me but for our family.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Knowing that everyone has a story and just want to be seen and heard.
