About Michell
Michell Oliver is a Registered Nurse based in Richmond, VA, with more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare field. She began her career serving 20 years in the Army as an LPN, after which she returned to school to obtain her RN. Her professional expertise spans managed care, military nursing, and home healthcare, where she currently practices. Oliver is committed to patient-centered care, viewing healthcare as a ministry focused on making others feel better rather than personal gain. She maintains active involvement in veterans' support through the Disabled American Veterans Association and a workplace veterans organization. In addition, she contributes to her community through church-led efforts including food drives and back-to-school supply collections. Oliver emphasizes the importance of work-life balance and advises those entering the field to prioritize others' well-being and set aside personal matters when providing care.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to always remember that it's not about you. It's about you giving your best to make somebody else feel better. And if you can't put away your personal stuff, don't show up to work that day. Nursing and any type of healthcare is about giving back, and your purpose is to be there to make somebody else feel better. It's a ministry. It's not even about the money.
