Her Interview
Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my commitment to education, continuous growth, and my desire to create meaningful opportunities for students. After spending 16 years as a teacher with New York City Public Schools from 2000 to 2016, I established my own educational program in 2017 to address learning gaps and provide students with additional academic support. For more than nine years, I have operated the program, serving elementary and middle school students through tutoring, enrichment, and mentorship. I am proud to extend that commitment to my own children as well, using my experience and passion for education to help young people build confidence, strengthen their skills, and reach their full potential.
02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are education, service, community engagement, and continuous growth. My journey from Trinidad to New York and my experiences in education have taught me the importance of creating opportunities, building meaningful relationships, and opening doors for others. Through my work as the founder of MacArthur ReCare Inc. and my involvement with nonprofit and professional organizations, I remain committed to family and community engagement and to making a positive difference in the lives of students and families. I also value lifelong learning and professional development, which continue to shape my leadership and inspire me to expand my network, build collaborative relationships, and create new opportunities for educational advancement.
