Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being willing to learn, ask questions, and continually build my knowledge of the legal field. My experience has taught me the importance of researching applicable laws and codes, developing strong professional relationships, and staying engaged with the details of every case. I take pride in contributing meaningfully to cases and helping ensure that attorneys and clients are prepared for important legal proceedings.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The importance of asking questions and continuing to learn has been central to my professional development. I believe that being willing to seek clarification, learn from others, and continually expand my knowledge is essential to growing in the legal profession.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice is to always ask questions and never be afraid to seek guidance. Build strong relationships with other paralegals and professionals in the legal field, because those connections can provide valuable knowledge and perspective. I also encourage the next generation to learn through research and become familiar with the laws and codes relevant to their practice, such as the Texas Family Code.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in the legal profession is remembering the human impact behind every case. Whether someone is facing a criminal matter, divorce, or another family law issue, the outcome can significantly affect their livelihood, relationships, children, and future. I believe legal professionals have an important responsibility to combine technical knowledge and careful preparation with compassion, respect, and strong advocacy. My decision to pursue mediation is another opportunity for me to expand my professional impact by helping individuals navigate conflict and, when appropriate, work toward solutions outside of traditional litigation.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are faith, family, compassion, positivity, service, perseverance, and helping others. In my work, I understand that clients often come into a law office during some of the most stressful and difficult periods of their lives, and I believe they deserve to be treated with care, respect, and compassion while receiving knowledgeable and professional support. My faith plays a central role in my personal life and influences how I approach challenges, relationships, and my future. I strive to carry these values into everything I do and to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
