Michelle Drayton
Michelle Drayton is a dedicated educator, administrator, and mentor with over three decades of service to students, families, and communities across Los Angeles. A graduate of California State University, Northridge, with a Master’s in Educational Leadership, Michelle built her career within the Los Angeles Unified School District as a teacher, Career and Technical Education Advisor, and Summer Youth Employment Program Coordinator. She later served as an administrator at Grace Hopper STEM Academy, where she focused on expanding career pathways, mentoring teachers, and supporting special populations of students. Currently, Michelle continues her mission at BetterYouth, Inc., where she provides mentorship, career development, and essential life skills to young people, helping them turn challenges into opportunities.
Her inspiration to serve was deeply rooted in her upbringing—her father was a pastor, and she has always carried the value of servant leadership into her work and life. Beyond the classroom, Michelle has helped families by arranging housing, transportation, food, clothing and other necessities, ensuring her impact extends beyond education into holistic care and advocacy. She has been instrumental in the success and growth of BetterYouth, a non-profit organization whose mission is to build creative confidence, bridge the digital divide and gain equitable access to career pathways for young people. The goal of BetterYouth's signature Earn and Learn Program is economic self-sufficiency and economic mobility. BetterYouth has developed an ecosystem consisting of 3 pathways, film, animation and gaming, designed to prepare youth for entry into creative apprenticeships and entry level careers.
Outside of her professional and volunteer commitments, Michelle enjoys a full and joyful life. She has been married for 43 years to her husband Robert, is the proud mother of four children, two of which were adopted. She finds joy in music as a member of the Voices of Faith Choir at Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, CA where her pastor is Dr. J. P. Foster. She also has a love for acting, traveling, and simply taking scenic drives. At the heart of her journey is her unwavering faith and in the belief that her ministry is to empower others. Her legacy continues to be defined by her passion for education, mentorship, and community service.

What do you attribute your success to?
My faith in my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Consistency is key. Stay with your passion and your ministry will blossom.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to follow your heart and trust the gifts God has placed within you—don’t let anyone discourage you from using them. Recognize your strengths, nurture them, and use them with purpose and confidence to make a difference.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The greatest challenge is knowing your worth and your purpose and being able to recognize the manipulation the world constantly
throws at you. There are so many pressures to conform to what the world says, not what the Word says. We must know the
difference and stand on what we know is right. Dr. Martin Lither King, Jr. said, "The time is always right to do right."
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value tradition, kindness, generosity, fairness, forgiveness, gratitude, honesty, loyalty and above all love.
