Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
The most simplified answer to that question is unwillingness to surrender irregardless of the circumstances or challenges that I faced in my career. Complete dedication and commitment to mastering my craft, which was not based on a monetary gain but self-evolvement, growth, with unwavering refusal to compromise my principles. I worked extremely hard to provide the best service possible to clients, ensuring that it is built on honestly transparency, integrity and efficiency. I made many mistakes in my career and I had to be willing to make the adjustments on those mistakes and figure out a better path forward.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Make sure to have a professional structure in my business when it comes to Communications, and branding my image, and make sure that I implement technology as a means to efficiently run that business. In the first year of business I bought my first computer.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
As women pursuing entrepreneurship we have to work twice as hard to prove ourselves equal to our counterparts. It's important to find the proper balance, that doesn't compromise our principles and doesn't take away from the objective of what we are trying to accomplish.
There needs to be a balance of strength and kindness, being assertive is mastering the ability to understand when your voice must be heard and when you must have the courage to stand up for what you believe in. It doesn't require cruelty, or that you must take on a masculine mentality to compete with a male-dominated profession. Always be true to yourself, and never let anyone tell you that you can't achieve anything that you dream of.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is solidifying your expertise and value in this industry so that others embellish and embrace it so as to invest in you in exchange for the time that you invest in them. However one must demand that respect through knowledge,, dedication, self worth, and unwillingness to compromise irregardless of the sacrifices that must be made that actually are not sacrifices they are pillars and stepping Stones to success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, transparency, efficiency, and integrity are key in my work because they build trust and represent the embodiment of what business should be about. I would rather be honest to my clients even if broke. In my personal life, the outer core values are to be good, kind, empathetic, and loving, which my mother taught me, though I struggle with some due to my upbringing and have a lot to unpack to fully embody them.
