About Michelle
Dr. Michelle Lake is an accomplished Industrial-Organizational Psychologist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, executive consultant, educator, author, and entrepreneur with more than 17 years of experience in leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and behavioral health. She is the CEO and founder of EMMIC LLC, based in Vero Beach, Florida, where she partners with organizations to enhance employee engagement, workplace culture, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance through evidence-based consulting, executive coaching, manager and leadership training, instructional design, and strategic program development. Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Lake has held leadership roles with organizations including Optum, Hazel Health, Florida International University, and Included Health, where she has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, supervised clinicians, and developed high-impact organizational and clinical initiatives.
In addition to her organizational consulting, Dr. Lake continues to practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, providing individual and couples therapy to children ages five and older, adolescents, and adults. Licensed in Florida, Maryland, Virginia, and Nevada, she specializes in delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while also serving as a Qualified Supervisor for Registered Mental Health Counseling Interns in Florida. Dr. Lake earned her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Organizational Learning and Leadership with a specialization in Human Resources Management from Barry University in 2020 and her master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida International University in 2009. She also holds graduate certificates in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Instructional Design from University of Miami. A dedicated advocate for advancing the field of organizational psychology, she is an active member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Beyond her consulting and clinical work, Dr. Lake is passionate about education, advocacy, and empowering individuals and families. She is the author of two children's books, We Love You No Matter If You're Near or Far Away, an adoption story celebrating unconditional love and belonging, and I Am Extraordinary, which encourages children to embrace their uniqueness and stand confidently against bullying. She also hosts the Embrace the Dive with Dr. Michelle Lake podcast on Spotify, where she shares practical insights on parenting, work-life balance, leadership, burnout prevention, mental health, and personal growth. 01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a strong work ethic, an ambitious mindset, and the determination to never give up. I believe that consistent effort, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace challenges are essential to achieving meaningful goals. Staying focused, maintaining a positive attitude, and continuously striving for growth have enabled me to overcome obstacles and create opportunities throughout my personal and professional journey.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in yourself and recognize your worth. Never be afraid to pursue opportunities, advocate for yourself, and explore different paths that align with your goals. Consider creating your own business if you have the passion and vision to do so, as entrepreneurship can provide both purpose and independence. Most importantly, prioritize a healthy work-life balance. Success should never come at the expense of your well-being you deserve both peace and joy while building a fulfilling career.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide both my work and personal life are integrity, humility, faith, family, and meaningful relationships. I strive to be a good human being by treating others with kindness, respect, and compassion. My faith provides purpose and direction, while my family and friends keep me grounded and remind me of what truly matters. I believe that success is most fulfilling when it is built on strong values, genuine character, and the positive impact we have on others.
