About Michelle
Michelle Levy serves as a booking agent specializing in securing shows for DJs and producers within the music industry. Having entered the field in the late 1990s, she built her career by approaching DJs at clubs and offering to book them for a commission, effectively creating her own position on the business side of music. A graduate of the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Levy manages her bookings through software, handles contracts, pitches to new venues, and maintains relationships with artists and clients. She advises young women entering the industry to embrace networking and nightlife if they are night owls, drawing from her own experience of faking it till you make it when starting out. In both her professional and personal life, Levy values treating others with kindness and giving the benefit of the doubt. Outside of work, she dedicates significant time to dog rescue efforts and currently shares her home with three rescue dogs.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Fake it till you make it. When I first started, I had no idea what I was doing, and someone told me to fake it till you make it, just make everyone else think that you are confident and know what you're doing, and then one day you will be.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do it if you're a night owl. Networking is key, make sure you're up for nightlife since a lot of it goes on at night. Go to events and talk to as many people as you can.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges are the economy; people having trouble paying bills leads to less spending on entertainment. Nightclubs and concerts have budget cuts, so less spending on DJ bookings.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Treat others how you want to be treated. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they show you otherwise. Lead with kindness even when someone is taking stuff out on me.
