Michelle Moreno, Tax Associate on Influential Women

I've been working in the tax and accounting field for about 5 years at a CPA firm, handling accounting work and taxes during tax season. In 2018, I went through the devastating loss of my father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate and bone cancer, and the end of my 23-year marriage. During that incredibly difficult time of feeling lost and reflecting on who I was, I turned to God's Word to heal the proper way. That's when God called me to write, even though I kept saying I wasn't a writer. I created my first book and published it in 2021 as a self-published author. Now God is drawing me to write a second manuscript, which I've been working on for a couple of years. My work is driven by my desire to help the broken, lonely, and unnoticed experience the same love, healing, and transformation I've found through deepening my relationship with Christ. It's not about getting my name out there, but getting His name out there and directing people back to Jesus, who has been my provider, healer, and comforter through everything.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I would say it's just deepening my relationship with Christ. I love accounting and I love taxes, but that comes second. It's relationship with Jesus, because we have - it's not religion, it's relationship. In the world that we're living in, people need to know how much they are loved by the one that created everything. My most notable professional achievement is this deeper relationship with Christ, because it's not me, it's Him that's helped me to get to where I'm at. He's been my provider, He's been my healer, He's been my comforter, He's been everything.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to never doubt yourself and don't underestimate yourself. It's about believing in your own capabilities and not selling yourself short.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important values to me are healing, forgiveness, love, and compassion - all the things that God is. It's about being a reflection of who He is. I believe God wants us to be released from the bitterness, anger, and resentment that has been suppressed, and to be healed and made whole. My desire is for others to experience the love like I have and to know that they are worthy, chosen, and called for greater things. What inspired me to get into my field was people - the broken, lonely, the unnoticed - and just the love for others.
