What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work and digging deep. My daughter saw something in me that I could do better, so much better than what I was doing. She had been watching me work in insurance and the medical world, doing night shifts in emergency rooms for so many years, and she recommended a company and a position in employee benefits that I had never even considered. She told me, 'Mom, you need to check this out. You'd be really good with this.' So I did, and I just kind of built everything from there. I completely started my whole entire life over from nothing, from one paycheck. In my industry, it's forever changing, and we're always learning something new, always finding something better for clients. I focus on continuous learning and growth, both professionally and personally. I don't feel like we're just working for the client - we're working for their employees, so we're consistently trying to find what's better for them going forward. One of the things I had to learn was that I am valuable to others, that people need me, and I can do things and do good for others. Sometimes I don't always feel like I realize how valuable I am, but I've learned to keep going, keep taking steps, keep leveling up, and not stop. Just keep working relentlessly.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received is to keep going, keep taking steps, and keep working relentlessly. I love the word 'relentlessly' - it really captures what I've had to do. I have little post-it notes to remind myself all the time: just keep going, keep leveling up, don't stop. Sometimes I don't always feel like I realize how valuable I am, and sometimes it makes me feel kind of conceited, like who do I think I am? But one of the things I had to learn was that I am valuable to others, that people need me, and I can do things and do good for others. So the advice is simple: just keep going, keep working relentlessly, do not stop.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are balance, connection, and joy. I prioritize maintaining a happy and healthy marriage, nurturing meaningful relationships with my children and grandchild, and spending quality time creating memories together. I also value adventure and freedom, which I express through riding motorcycles, embracing experiences that bring energy and perspective to my life. At work, these same principles guide me focusing on collaboration, integrity, and thoughtful support while in my personal life, they ensure that I live fully, cultivate strong family bonds, and celebrate the moments that truly matter.
