Her Story
About Michelle
I am a global marketing and business development executive with nearly thirty years of experience as a trusted business advisor and strategic leader, currently serving as Global Senior Director of Business Development and Marketing at DLA Piper, one of the largest global law firms in the world, a role I have held since January 2024, where I work closely with the Global Managing Partner, manage the Americas and Global Initiatives Teams alongside the firm's Executive Committee and Management Team, and collaborate with Communications, Marketing, and Business Development leadership to drive growth, enhance brand awareness, and facilitate client relationships across multiple markets domestically and internationally, including the US, Latin America, and Canada, and the firm's international initiatives.
Prior to this role, I served as Director of Regional Marketing for the Americas at DLA Piper for nearly two years, where I led the marketing team focused on growth and impact across the Americas region with a specific focus on Latin America and Canada. Before joining DLA Piper, I served as Chief Relations Officer at Kelley Kronenberg for nearly two years, where I led marketing, strategy, branding, media, and public relations efforts across the U.S., and drove a one thousand percent increase in total media exposure during a period of national expansion. I also served as Chief Marketing Officer at Greenspoon Marder LLP for four years, where I was part of the leadership team that propelled the firm upward among the Am Law 200 and NLJ 500, driving an over five hundred percent increase in PR hits and achieving an aggregate PR reach of nearly three billion.
Earlier in my career, I served as Regional Marketing and Business Development Manager at Hunton and Williams LLP for five years, where I executed firm and regional business development initiatives with a focus on international and Latin America markets, and as Senior Practice Development Manager at Akerman Senterfitt for one year, where I supported business development, public and internal communications, and multi-practice development.
I hold an MBA in Global Management from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice from The Honors College at Florida International University, where I was a Top 1% Scholarship Recipient and participated in Model United Nations.
Across my career in legal marketing and business development, my work has been driven by a commitment to strategic growth, brand elevation, and building strong client relationships through innovative, data-driven marketing and communications initiatives. Whether I am leading global marketing strategy, driving national expansion, or coaching partners and lawyers, I bring a collaborative, results-oriented approach and a dedication to excellence that has earned recognition and awards throughout my career. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue driving growth and impact at DLA Piper and beyond.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be open to taking people's advice even if you don't take it. If you're the smartest person in the room, you're probably in the wrong room. Growth and comfort don't coexist. Change is a constant and you need to stay in growth and learning mode to be nimble and adaptable.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Planning and action are not always linear. Understand who your champions and allies are, which may often be men. Embrace that, be kind, block out the noise, and find the windows and doors.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Opportunities to monetize for business development, sales, strategy professionals amid law firm consolidation. Law firms now operate more like investment firms and corporations, creating roles for high-level non-lawyer business executives in client work and operations. Shift toward sales, strategy, and competitive intelligence in addition to traditional marketing.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Being authentic, genuine, and transparent. Understanding your priorities as head of household and giving importance to all roles in life, including raising a family as a sole parent while building a career.
