Her Interview

Ten minutes with Michelle

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of ambition, a strong problem-solving mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others. Throughout my career, I have been driven to pursue meaningful goals while approaching challenges as opportunities to develop practical, innovative solutions. In fact, colleagues often refer to me as a "solutionist" because of my ability to navigate complex situations and deliver results. Equally important has been the support and collaboration of my professional peers, whose insights and partnership have contributed significantly to my growth and success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received came from someone I greatly admire, MMBA board member, Jill Young, who consistently emphasized the importance of building a strong professional network. She encouraged me to join industry groups and professional associations, learn from the experiences of others, and cultivate genuine relationships with people who have spent years in the field. That advice has stayed with me, as I have found that the knowledge, mentorship, and perspectives gained through meaningful professional connections are just as valuable as any formal course or training program.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to make networking a priority from the very beginning of your career. Get involved in professional organizations, join industry associations, and seek opportunities to connect with experienced professionals who are willing to share their knowledge and insights. Learning from the experiences of others, building meaningful relationships, and surrounding yourself with a strong professional network can provide invaluable guidance, open new opportunities, and support your long-term career growth.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is the increasing number of claim denials resulting from documentation requirements not being fully met, as well as the growing use of automated AI systems that can incorrectly deny legitimate claims. These issues create additional administrative burdens and can delay patient care and reimbursement. At the same time, there are significant opportunities within the industry, particularly the expansion of remote work. Advances in technology now allow professionals to provide billing and revenue cycle services for clients across multiple states while working from virtually anywhere, creating greater flexibility and access to a broader range of organizations.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Balance, integrity, and accountability are the values that guide both my professional and personal life. I believe in honoring my commitments, following through on what I say I will do, and consistently showing up for the people who rely on me. Being dependable and trustworthy is central to who I am, and I strive to build strong relationships through honesty, reliability, and a genuine commitment to doing the right thing while maintaining a healthy balance between work and life.
