Michelle KingRobledo is a revenue cycle management consultant and patient access leader with approximately 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She most recently worked at Cook County in Chicago, where she led revenue cycle and patient access functions, including patient registration, capacity management, bed control, and alignment with clinical teams on administrative services. Her expertise spans front-end and back-end revenue cycle management, including registration, contracting, claims adjudication, and ensuring payments align with contracts. Michelle holds a master's degree in business administration from Texas A&M Commerce, an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and healthcare administration training from the U.S. Academy of Health Sciences. Her credentials include Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM, obtained in 2011), Certified Quality Improvement Associate with the American Society for Quality, Lean Certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and project management training. She is passionate about mentoring, process improvement, and integrating technology such as AI to enhance efficiency in healthcare operations. Michelle is currently based in New York City and operates a consulting business while seeking full-time employment opportunities.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay flexible and stay curious. Get into a niche but be open to how information travels through the organization. Pursue additional certifications like quality to improve processes and gain a bird's-eye view to spot deficiencies and opportunities.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges: Lack of knowledge among leaders about existing technology and policies, disequilibrium in information, poor project planning without metrics. Opportunities: Integrating AI to handle rudimentary tasks, freeing staff for value-added work like ensuring proper payments according to contracts.
