Her Interview
Ten minutes with Michelle
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of resilience, continuous learning, and surrounding myself with people who challenge me to grow. I’ve learned to stay grounded in my values while being adaptable to change — that balance has been key.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received was to stop chasing perfection and start delivering value. I used to get caught up in making everything flawless before sharing it, but I learned that progress and impact matter more than polish. By focusing on solving real problems and iterating along the way, I’ve grown faster, built stronger relationships, and opened doors that perfectionism would’ve kept shut.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to own your voice early, even when you're the only woman in the room. Confidence isn’t about knowing everything — it’s about trusting your ability to figure things out. Don’t wait for permission to lead, ask the hard questions, or propose the bold idea. Surround yourself with mentors who challenge you and peers who uplift you, and never underestimate the value of community. Your perspective matters, and the industry needs it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
While AI tools like GitHub Copilot streamline routine tasks, many traditional engineering roles are being replaced or transformed. Early-career professionals are especially impacted as companies shift toward more AI-integrated workflows
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me—both in my work and personal life—are integrity, curiosity, and empathy. Integrity keeps me grounded in doing what's right, even when it's not the easiest path. Curiosity drives me to keep learning, asking better questions, and staying open to new perspectives. And empathy allows me to build meaningful connections, whether I’m collaborating on a project or supporting someone in my personal life. These values guide how I show up, make decisions, and measure success beyond just outcomes.
