Her Story

About Micki

I've been in my industry for about 15 years, and it's been an amazing journey of realizing my value, with lots of growth, fun, and opportunities. The main thing has been learning what it takes and what's required to be able to choose yourself and know that the path you're on is for you. I own a social media marketing agency called You Are Magic Media, which I officially launched in January 2023, though I'd been doing this work for other companies for a long time before going official. I'm also a human performance advisor and consultant with Dr. Joe Dispenza, which has truly been one of my biggest accomplishments. I'm trained in body language technique to help people process their emotions immediately by reading their body language. Right now, I'm really leaning into launching my personal brand and doing more speaking engagements, leading as my individual self and not just my agency or companies. My day-to-day involves networking events, being out in the community building relationships, content creation for my brand and social media, and meetings and collaborations about different events or experiences we could create for companies. I'm focused on helping people become aware of their value and making an impact in that capacity. I didn't go to college - I went straight into entrepreneurship. I used to carry shame around that, but now I'm doing a lot better than most people with degrees, so I think we're doing okay. I've learned through self-evaluation, the school of hard knocks, and I'm not afraid to make mistakes. I fail forward.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Micki

01What do you attribute your success to?

I've got to say, my dad. He is a man, he was the best example for me, and taught me a lot of what I know, so I would definitely contribute it to my dad. From my childhood growing up, I have got some incredible, incredible mentors and people in my life right now that I would also contribute it to, but I think the most impactful person in my life has been my dad.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Trust yourself. I think that it's so easy to be influenced by other people and other people's experiences and their processes and systems, and the minute that I really started to surrender to my own intuition and to my resolve, it felt like I was a Phoenix rising from the ashes. Trusting myself, just really, really trusting myself has been the best advice I've received.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Choose yourself. Be able to have the courage to speak up for yourself, stand up for yourself. And again, just really, really trusting yourself and standing in your power and authority.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

It's scaling. I think it's finding the right talent to hire. With my marketing agency, it felt a lot easier to scale and hire, but with my personal brand, I'm thinking business development, and now I need my own social media manager, so it's been a really new experience for me building my personal brand. There are very different challenges that come with that - more of my personal self being seen, like what is my package? What do I sell? I'm like, look, just hang out with me, I promise you're gonna feel really good when we're done. With my marketing agency, it was really finding the right talent and knowing who to hire for what was next. What is the most important role right now that we need to fill? You get people that say they can do all the things, and they have the degrees, and they don't, so I've learned to put together tests for people to do before they get hired.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Vulnerable communication is most important to me. Being able to express yourself whenever things are difficult and challenging, or let's say you're angry or having an emotion in a negative way, just being able to really communicate. And then also integrity - so if you say you're gonna do something, do it, and if something astronomical comes or something happens to where you can't, again, back to the communication. I value communication more than anything. I feel like it'll solve a lot of problems before they would exist.
