Her Story

About Mikayla

I've been in sales for over a decade at this point, working for 11 years across different companies, and I've been in my current role for 4 years. As a sales executive, my day-to-day involves much more than people's glorified image of just sending people out for coffee breaks and lunch breaks. It's a lot of cold calling, client management, and maintaining customer relations in order to retain our business and clientele. To secure new clients, I'm out in the field interacting with doctors, receptionists, and a multitude of people to get our company's name out there. I'm now making an exciting transition into welding, currently enrolled at Antelope Valley College and College of the Canyons in Lancaster, California, with an expected graduation in spring 2028. I initially attended Temple University in Philadelphia. My ultimate goal is to become a hyperbaric welder, an underwater welder, which will allow me to incorporate something hands-on that will be beneficial in the long run, especially after seeing the devastation from the fires in California, whether the Eaton fires in Pasadena where I'm originally from, or the damage done over to PCH and the highways. I want to have the type of business where I can influence and employ other people in sales, but also redirect some of the energy to physically helping the community and working with my passion for the ocean.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success in sales to, first and foremost, other people's faith in me, being given a shot. I would first and foremost acknowledge that. In my success, I think it would be persistence and flexibility. Being able to take on more than the role calls for, without it feeling like extra work. That's something that I've just always done, whether it's a team sport, whether it's a meeting, whether it's whatever. I am the type of person where if I have extra energy and I can do the task, I will volunteer for the task, and that's definitely allowed me a good foot in sales and in growing up the ladder in sales. It's the ambition, it's the persistence, it's being able to be flexible of the mind, the schedule, and everything.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would give the advice to be persistent, and to not compare yourself to anyone around you. If you know that you're putting your best foot forward, and you're putting your maximum effort, then you're doing your best, and the sales will reflect that eventually. It's a matter of persistence.
