About Mila
Mila Boyd owns a technology company and works as an interior designer in Washington state, having launched both ventures in 2022. With an Associate of Applied Science in Digital Design and a UX and UI Design Certificate completed recently, she develops websites and applications tailored for home improvement professionals, integrating her expertise in UX/UI design, coding, and user engagement. Boyd's educational path includes studies in aerospace engineering and network engineering, following earlier roles in hospitality and as a military operations assistant for events planning. She previously worked at Boeing, Home Depot, and Flor & Decor, where she was recognized in the company newsletter as the first designer to achieve 25 percent sales. Her accomplishments include receiving an $88,000 grant from the Pierce County Alcalator program, making the Dean's List, graduating with honors, and induction into the PCTACUBA International Honor Society. As a member of the Women's Association in Gig Harbor, the Pierce County Alcalator, and the Chamber of Commerce for e-commerce, Boyd also supports community initiatives such as environmental science charities and her daughter's UNICEF and GI disease non-profit efforts for teens. A single mother originally from Saudi Arabia, she emphasizes family, positive community impact, and meaningful work over financial gain alone.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mila
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You do not need to say what you need to say by words. Action is louder than words. Take the energy of talking and put it in action, whether doing people's homes or websites.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
You must have some sort of education before you enter the industry, because if they don't have education or certification, they will not have their independence.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
It is a male-dominated field with harsh environments and no feminine support. It is tough to gain respect as a female. Morality issues in big tech companies like Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, Boeing where ethical concerns are sidelined and work may involve weapons development.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is most important as a single mom working hard for her daughter. Helping others and taking care of the community. Having a job that provides satisfaction and positive impact, not just working for money. Investing in my own worth through behavior and character.
