Ten minutes with Millie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of consistency, adaptability, and the ability to translate people strategy into real operational impact. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on building strong relationships, understanding the needs of the business, and staying grounded in day-to-day operations.

I’ve never viewed HR as just a support function—I see it as a driver of performance, culture, and long-term success. By staying hands-on, building trust across teams, and maintaining a strong balance between empathy and accountability, I’ve been able to deliver results that support both people and the business.

At the end of the day, success comes down to people—and how well you show up for them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to never lose sight of the people behind the process. Early in my career, I was reminded that while systems, metrics, and performance matter, it’s the people who ultimately drive results. That perspective has stayed with me and continues to shape how I lead—by staying connected, building trust, and making decisions that support both the business and the individuals behind it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to believe in your voice and your value early on—don’t wait for permission to lead. Show up, speak up, and trust that your perspective matters.

Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready to step up—growth comes from being willing to learn as you go. Take the time to truly understand how the business operates, not just your role within it, and focus on building strong relationships across all levels.

Confidence will grow with experience, but consistency in how you show up is what builds trust and opens doors. Most importantly, lead with both confidence and empathy—there is real strength in being able to do both.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in Human Resources right now is navigating the rapid pace of change—especially with the rise of AI, shifting workforce expectations, and increasing pressure to deliver more with fewer resources. Organizations are being asked to adopt new technologies while also ensuring trust, compliance, and a strong employee experience, which isn’t always easy to balance.

At the same time, employee expectations are evolving. There is a greater demand for purpose, flexibility, and a sense of belonging in the workplace, particularly among newer generations entering the workforce.

However, within these challenges lies a significant opportunity. HR is no longer just a support function—it’s becoming a true strategic partner. There is an opportunity to shape workforce strategy, develop stronger leaders, and create cultures that drive both engagement and performance.

For me, the biggest opportunity is helping organizations find the right balance between technology and the human element—leveraging innovation while still keeping people at the center of every decision. That’s where HR can make the greatest impact.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me—both professionally and personally—are integrity, accountability, and respect. I believe in showing up consistently, doing what I say I’m going to do, and holding myself to the same standards I expect from others.

I also place a strong value on empathy. Understanding people, listening, and creating an environment where individuals feel seen and supported is just as important as driving results. For me, it’s never about choosing between people and performance—it’s about finding the balance that allows both to thrive.

Lastly, I value growth—both my own and the growth of those around me. I believe that every experience, especially the challenging ones, creates an opportunity to learn, evolve, and become a stronger leader.

At the core of everything I do is a commitment to leading with purpose, building trust, and making a meaningful impact.
