Ten minutes with Mindy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I'm not afraid to ask questions, even if you've overthought it thinking it's a dumb question. Surround myself with people that know more than I do so that I can learn from them. Taking ownership of the things that go wrong. Treat people with respect. Ask good questions even if you don't think it's a good question.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Shut up and listen. Stop talking. The best thing you can do as a good leader is to stop talking long enough to really hear what somebody's trying to tell you. Truly hearing people.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Own your space. You belong here. You don't wait for somebody to give you permission to have a voice. Take responsibility, step up, be a leader. Build your knowledge, ask good questions, speak up. Take on the challenges that stretch you. Be confident in what you bring to the table. Support the women that are coming up behind you. You don't have to change who you are to fit somebody else's idea of what a leader looks like.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Developing and keeping skilled people. Technology is becoming advanced and there's still this tremendous need for people who understand how to apply that. Learning the AI aspect. Tremendous opportunity for women in the HVAC industry. Women have stronger communication skills and a different attention to detail.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity. Accountability. Being curious. Do the right thing even when it's not the easiest thing. Own your mistakes and be willing to learn from that. Success means a lot if you're willing to help the people around you.
