Miranda McNamara
Miranda McNamara is the Owner of True North Energy and Tarot in Moose Lake, Minnesota, a holistic wellness center dedicated to healing, personal growth, and community connection. After practicing Reiki informally for more than 13 years, she opened the business in March 2026 following a deeply personal experience caring for her mother during her battle with cancer. Through Reiki, Miranda helped provide comfort, peace, and support during her mother’s final months, an experience that affirmed her calling to help others through energy healing. Today, she offers Reiki sessions, intuitive tarot readings, yoga, meditation, and wellness-focused services designed to help individuals restore balance and reconnect with themselves.
True North Energy and Tarot has evolved into more than a wellness practice—it has become a community gathering place that welcomes people from all backgrounds and beliefs. Alongside holistic services, the store showcases artwork and handcrafted goods created by local artists and makers, supporting the region’s creative community. The center also hosts yoga classes four days a week with a variety of instructors, and Miranda is currently pursuing her own yoga certification. Guided by her belief that everyone deserves a place where they feel accepted and supported, she has intentionally created an inclusive environment where individuals can explore healing and self-discovery regardless of their religious or spiritual background.
In addition to her entrepreneurial work, Miranda brings nearly three decades of experience in human services, administration, counseling, and community support. Since 1998, she has served as a Direct Support Professional with Pine Ridge Homes, helping individuals achieve greater independence and quality of life. Her professional background also includes roles as a counselor, City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Scanlon, and Administrative Secretary and Media Relations Specialist with Power PR. A graduate of Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College with an Associate of Arts degree in Human Services, Miranda is also a writer, poet, and musician. Among her many accomplishments, she is most proud of helping veterans cope with PTSD, depression, and emotional trauma through Reiki, work that reflects her commitment to serving others and making a meaningful difference in their lives.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to finally following my bliss and doing what I felt called to do. For 13 years I practiced Reiki with friends and family, but it wasn't until my mom passed away in November that I fully committed to this path. Helping her transition peacefully showed me that I was making a real difference and doing what I was supposed to be doing. I'm passionate about supporting my community and collaborating with other creators and practitioners. We sell local artists' work and crafts in the store, and I have different yoga instructors come in to teach classes. I'm always open to helping other people, letting them lead classes, sell their art, or share their talents. That community involvement and creating opportunities for others has been such a really neat part of this journey.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Follow your bliss. I feel like it's the first time I've fully done that, and it's made all the difference. If it's not making you happy, then you're not doing the right thing. This is the first time in my life where I'm 100% following what brings me joy, and I can feel that it's the right path. I had worked in a completely different field before, doing accounting for a city, but I always felt called to this healing work. It took me years to fully commit to it, but now that I have, I know this is what I'm meant to be doing.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just go for it! Don't let anybody talk you out of what you know in your gut you're being called to do, especially in the healing field. Go for it and dream big. So many people will try to discourage you, but if you know in your gut that you're being called to do something, don't let anybody talk you out of following your dream. I spent years doing other work before I finally committed to this path, and I wish I had trusted myself sooner. When you feel that calling, pursue it confidently and don't allow others to discourage you from what you feel called to do.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges I face is that people misunderstand what tarot is and what Reiki is. I'm in a very conservative minded town, religiously, so including the tarot piece, I knew I would face some pushback. It really hasn't been that bad, and I've been pretty good at just addressing it directly and explaining what it is I do and how I do it. People are afraid of anything they don't understand, so even with Reiki, a lot of people don't know what it is or what exactly I do. That's just kind of human nature. I like to try to put videos out and just show what it is I actually do and explain it to people. I want people to know that I'm here to help and to not be afraid of that. Everybody is welcome here, that's our vibe. I'm always open to helping other people too, letting other people lead classes or sell their art. The community involvement has been a real opportunity.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Authenticity is huge for me, along with integrity and just treating people the way you want to be treated. I think that is so important in everything I do. These values guide how I run my business and how I interact with clients. I want everyone to feel welcome in my space, regardless of their religious beliefs or background. It's about being genuine and honest in my work and making sure people know they can trust me and that I'm here to help them.
