Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a lifelong passion for creativity and helping others see their potential. My career began with paintbrushes, sketchbooks, and teaching teenagers to embrace their own artistic abilities. That early love of artistry naturally evolved into the world of makeup and esthetics—another canvas, another way to inspire confidence and empower individuals to recognize their own beauty. Over the years, I’ve embraced many roles: makeup artist, esthetician, luxury cosmetics manager, educator, mentor, and steadfast advocate for the transformative power of skincare.

As a cosmetics manager, I’ve had the privilege of leading dynamic teams of creative professionals, motivating them to achieve and exceed goals while maintaining the joy and artistry at the heart of our work. One of my proudest accomplishments is training more than 50 individuals in makeup artistry, with approximately 30 now earning income from the skills they developed. Witnessing others build careers and confidence from guidance I’ve provided is profoundly rewarding.

My professional journey has taken me to inspiring places—from the classrooms of Top Curl Beauty Academy to community-focused organizations such as Whitman Walker Clinic and Food & Friends. These experiences continually remind me that beauty is more than aesthetics; it is a form of connection, empowerment, and care that enriches lives both personally and professionally.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the beauty industry: just do it. Get hands-on experience—real growth comes from practice. Remember, beauty is a resilient field that combines creativity with stability; cosmetics have remained a driving force even in tough times. Embrace the work, hone your craft, and the opportunities will follow.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the beauty industry right now is the disconnect between those of us working directly with clients and the decision-makers in corporate offices. While feedback from the front lines is often requested, it isn’t always effectively acted upon or translated into meaningful change. Bridging this gap presents a significant opportunity to improve both client experiences and workplace efficiency.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are creativity, empowerment, and collaboration. I deeply believe in the transformative power of makeup and skincare to help individuals feel confident, recognize their own beauty, and take pride in themselves. Artistry has always been at the heart of everything I do—from customizing Barbie dolls as a child to creating professional makeup looks and special effects artistry. In my management approach, I focus on motivating my team, achieving goals, and fostering a positive, collaborative environment at all times.
