She attributes her success to the influence of her grandmother, who was a fashion designer and seamstress, combined with spiritual guidance that makes the work feel natural to her even without a formal degree. In her daily work, she handles creative direction, marketing, and skill development through classes and self-study to ensure high-quality products. Cledgy identifies brand awareness and competition from fast fashion as key challenges in her field. She values self-respect, integrity, and sisterhood, and advises others to walk in their purpose with confidence, never dim their light, and dress as they wish to be addressed.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Miss
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my grandmother who was a fashion designer and seamstress. She instilled it in me. It's like a spiritual guidance thing with my grandmother and with God. It comes natural to me even though I never touched a sewing machine until 2011 and have no formal degree.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
To never dim my light. Keep going and shine bright. There's a lot of times when you have discouraging moments but never dim your light.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
When you're walking in your purpose, you walk with confidence. Once you understand your purpose and where you want to go in life, do it with confidence no matter what comes your way. Never give up. Move with integrity and confidence. Show up as your best self and dress how you want to be addressed.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Brand awareness and marketing. Fast fashion is very popular right now which takes away from specialty designers like myself who are doing everything independently and taking pride in craftsmanship and sustainability.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Self-respect and knowing your worth. Never settle. Integrity - always do the right thing no matter what. Treat others how you want to be treated. Sisterhood and womanhood. Be kind and help as much as you can. We're stronger together.
