Her Story

About Missy

Missy Kruzel serves as a Level 2 Collection Specialist at a credit union in Moline. With nearly 10 years in the credit union field and 8 years in collections, she works daily with members from diverse backgrounds who are navigating financial difficulties, including job loss, living paycheck to paycheck, or facing housing challenges. She develops personalized arrangements to help them stay on track and connects them with assistance programs such as United Way and Project NOW. Missy began her career path after moving to Moline and taking on various roles including retail, restaurant work, and freelance makeup artistry before entering the credit union as a teller and advancing into collections. She attributes her success to her strong support system of family and friends. Beyond her professional role, Missy is deeply involved in her community. She has served for three years on the board of Seal Family Legacy, progressing from board member to treasurer and, as of October 1, to chair for a two-year term, where she supports Gold Star military families with children 18 and under. She also collaborates with Memories of Honor and participates in United Way initiatives, community cleanups, and food bank volunteering. Drawing from her own experience growing up below the poverty line and living in a homeless shelter, she shares her story to offer hope to members. Missy values the flexibility her job provides for family needs and credits advice from her grandfather and colleagues for encouraging her to seek growth and embrace discomfort, which led her to take on leadership roles despite a fear of public speaking.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Missy

01What do you attribute your success to?

The people I surround myself with. My family, my friends. I have a super amazing support system, both at work and at home, that a lot of people do not have. They're there to let me vent when I need to, and when I need advice, they will offer any kind of words of encouragement, or anything that I need. I've been very, very lucky in that aspect.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room, from my grandpa. And get comfortable with being uncomfortable, from somebody I've worked with. I've embraced that over the past couple years, stepped out of my comfort zone, specifically with the nonprofit that I sit on the board of.
