As a licensed marriage and family therapist, she is certified in EMDR, DBT, ACT, and all major theories. Misty Annette is a member of TAMFT and volunteers with the Wounded Warriors Project while making monthly donations to the Dallas Sheriff's Department and ASPCA. She attributes her success to her deep sense of purpose in helping clients move from survival mode to building passion in the present moment, with a particular focus on the LGBT community.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Misty
01What do you attribute your success to?
Resilience & spite. As a “black sheep” I turned into the GOAT. I recognize my ancestors who protect me. I acknowledge my spirit guides & angels who guide me. And, above all….I always know that GOD’s got me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Investor in yourself. And, never psychoanalyze friends or family.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
"Invest in yourself." • "Put your own oxygen mask on first." • Believes she was put on Earth to help people heal. • Wants to eliminate the stigma surrounding suicide and mental illness. • Ultimately hopes to make a global impact in mental health awareness. Life is tough but you’re tougher. You survived the trauma and you will survive the healing journey. Safety first.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Stigma surrounding asking for help & receiving help with talk therapy & behavioral meds. The unknown is scary but trusting doctors is smarter. We trained for this.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value authenticity. I remind my clients that I am on this journey with them. I never extend a practice that I have not experienced. We are all M.A.D. here.
