Her Interview
Ten minutes with Mitzi
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to faith, resilience, continuous learning, and a genuine passion for helping others. My 40 years in nursing taught me discipline, adaptability, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving, while my experience as a nursing educator strengthened my ability to guide and connect with others. When I transitioned into writing, I carried those skills forward and turned a lifelong passion for words into a new career. I believe every chapter prepares us for the next, and success comes from embracing change, staying open to learning, and finding purpose in what we do.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received is to believe in God and believe in myself. My faith has guided me through challenges and transitions, while self-confidence has helped me keep moving forward when others did not immediately recognize my work. I’ve also learned that rejection is not failure—it can redirect you toward a better opportunity. I encourage others to remain persistent, prepared, and confident, trusting that every closed door can lead to a new and meaningful path.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to believe in God, believe in themselves, and never underestimate the power of their own voice. Confidence means trusting your ability to learn, adapt, overcome challenges, and keep moving forward. My journey from nursing to education and writing has taught me that every career chapter offers valuable experiences that can prepare you for the next.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I see significant opportunities in the growing demand for authentic, strategic communication as businesses compete for attention. Effective copywriting goes beyond words—it requires understanding audiences, solving problems, telling compelling stories, and helping organizations maximize their marketing investments. While technology and automated content are changing the industry, I believe human creativity, empathy, experience, and authentic connection remain essential. The opportunity is to embrace new tools while preserving the human element that makes communication meaningful.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are faith, integrity, compassion, empathy, service, and lifelong learning. I believe my work should contribute something meaningful to others, whether through caring for patients, teaching, or helping businesses communicate effectively. My years in healthcare taught me the importance of treating people with respect and understanding, and I carry those lessons into my writing today. I strive to lead with honesty, resilience, generosity, and purpose while using my experience to educate, encourage, and inspire others.
