Molly Scott
Molly Scott is Senior Counsel at Hartline Barger, where she plays an active role in the firm’s growing San Antonio office. A seasoned litigator with 15 years of experience in injury litigation, Molly focuses her practice on insurance defense and injury-litigation defense. Her daily work includes managing depositions, discovery, mediations, and appellate matters, all within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Known for her analytical mindset and disciplined approach to case management, she thrives on complex legal challenges and strategic problem-solving on behalf of her clients.
Molly began her legal career representing injured individuals on the plaintiff side, where she developed substantial courtroom and advocacy experience. Four years ago, she transitioned into insurance defense litigation, recognizing that the analytical rigor and structured demands of defense work aligned closely with her strengths and professional philosophy. Among her notable achievements is successfully arguing before a Texas Court of Appeals on the sufficiency of an expert report in a medical malpractice case—a long-shot matter she revitalized by securing an affordable expert and crafting a winning appellate argument, allowing the case to proceed toward settlement. Her career reflects persistence, creativity, and a commitment to thoughtful, client-focused advocacy.
A graduate of Texas Tech University School of Law, Molly earned her J.D. with a strong emphasis on trial advocacy and practical, Texas-focused legal training, serving as Executive Managing Editor of the Texas Tech Administrative Law Journal. She received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Texas Christian University, where she was active in student leadership. Today, in addition to her demanding litigation practice, Molly balances her professional responsibilities with motherhood, bringing the same dedication, resilience, and authenticity to both her career and her family life.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to persistence, a willingness to tackle challenging and unconventional issues, building strong client relationships, and approaching problems with creativity and strategic thinking.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received came from my first boss on the plaintiff side, Kim Stovall (deceased). She was unapologetically passionate, encouraged taking on long-shot cases, and taught me the importance of seeing cases through to the end, no matter the odds.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would advise young women entering the industry to be open-minded about different practice areas and to embrace their strengths. Seek roles and environments that value what you bring to the table, rather than trying to fit into a professional persona that doesn’t align with who you are.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is balancing litigation’s demanding, calendar-driven workload with parenting and family responsibilities. At the same time, there’s a significant opportunity to build mentorship and support networks for female attorneys and attorney-parents, while also expanding visibility and leadership within both the firm and the broader community.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, include authenticity, analytical rigor, persistence, and strong client advocacy. I am especially committed to mentorship and supporting colleagues—particularly working parents—through initiatives like developing mentorship programs for female attorneys, fostering a supportive community for those balancing litigation careers with family, and taking on leadership roles, such as in our firm’s San Antonio expansion. Outside of work, I prioritize being an engaged mother to my two young children, enjoy baking and cooking (especially inspired by The Great British Baking Show), and staying active in my kids’ activities and baseball practice.
