About Monalisa
I have almost a decade of experience in creative marketing for smaller to mid-sized businesses. Recently, I opened my own creative company in Charlotte, North Carolina, offering branding, design, social media management, and data analytics. My passion for creating something of my own stems from working in a male-dominated industry where companies were owned by men. I started freelancing about 8 years ago but recently took the step to formally register my company for greater flexibility and control.

01What do you attribute your success to?
My drive comes from my sons. I want them to know it's possible to achieve your dreams. I'm from a very small town in Zimbabwe, Africa, and coming to the U.S. where I knew no one took a leap of faith. I want my sons to see that even if you were born where I was, you can still become somebody if you put your mind to it.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just do it. Just get started. I started freelancing about 8 years ago but was always afraid of registering a company and taking control. It's scary, but the first step is the hardest. As soon as you start, things will flow smoothly.
