Her Interview

Ten minutes with Monica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my ability to embrace change, remain flexible, and adapt to evolving environments. In the technology and information security field, where change is constant, I have learned the importance of staying resilient, open-minded, and willing to grow. I take a proactive approach to my career by seeking out opportunities, continuously expanding my knowledge, and taking initiative to go above and beyond expectations. My commitment to learning, adaptability, and creating value has allowed me to successfully navigate challenges, build strong relationships, and contribute meaningfully to the organizations I support.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is that “you can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” This perspective has taught me that regardless of where I started or the experiences that shaped my journey, I always have the opportunity to grow, learn, and create new possibilities for the future. I believe success comes from being open to continuous learning, embracing challenges, and recognizing that every experience provides an opportunity to develop new skills and move forward. This mindset has encouraged me to remain resilient, seek growth opportunities, and continue evolving throughout my career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the information security industry is to build a strong foundation by learning the fundamental principles of cybersecurity, particularly areas such as Identity and Access Management, least privilege, and Zero Trust frameworks. There are many free resources available that can help develop knowledge and confidence in these areas, and I encourage aspiring professionals to take the initiative to continuously learn and stay informed. It is also important to remain open-minded, flexible, and adaptable, as technology and security practices are constantly evolving. By embracing change, seeking mentorship, and investing in personal and professional growth, women entering this field can build rewarding careers and make a meaningful impact in cybersecurity.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in Identity and Access Management today is keeping pace with the rapid evolution of technology and the continuous changes in the cybersecurity landscape. As organizations adopt new platforms, applications, and security frameworks, IAM professionals must remain agile and continuously expand their knowledge to effectively manage emerging risks. At the same time, one of the greatest opportunities in the field is increasing awareness of the importance of strong identity governance and access management practices. By educating teams, promoting security awareness, and helping organizations understand the value of protecting digital identities, we can strengthen security, reduce risk, and create a more proactive approach to cybersecurity.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are purpose, collaboration, and integrity. I am most fulfilled when I know my work contributes to a larger organizational vision and makes a meaningful impact. In my role, I value the opportunity to help mitigate risk, strengthen security, and support the organization's long-term success through effective Identity and Access Management practices. I also believe that strong collaboration is essential, and I enjoy working with colleagues across teams to solve complex challenges, share knowledge, and achieve common goals. These values guide my approach to every opportunity and motivate me to continually make a positive difference.
