Her Story

About Monica

Monica Buszynski is a Senior Digital Designer with approximately 20 years of experience in graphic and digital design. Her career began in higher education and expanded across hospitality, beverage marketing, freelance design, and digital education, giving her a versatile understanding of visual communication across diverse audiences and industries. She specializes in digital design, graphic design, visual communications, brand development, layout design, and creative strategy, with a strong focus on creating engaging and purposeful visual experiences.

In her current role at Keypath Education, Monica supports university partners delivering online healthcare education programs. She collaborates with admissions teams, content managers, assistant directors, and fellow designers to develop creative materials that support the student journey and course-development process. Earlier in her career, she served as a Lead On-Site Graphic Designer at Brandmuscle, where she led design initiatives for beverage industry clients, created marketing campaigns and point-of-sale materials, and trained and mentored other designers. Her work has earned gold and silver industry recognition, along with a collaborative award that reflects both her creative contributions and strong relationships with colleagues.

Beyond her professional work, Monica is committed to community involvement and giving back through AIGA and company-supported initiatives, including outreach benefiting underprivileged youth and healthcare-related causes and providing pro bono graphic design services. She is particularly interested in expanding her animation capabilities and staying current with evolving technologies such as Figma, Adobe, and artificial intelligence. While embracing new tools, Monica values the human creativity, communication, collaboration, and intuition that remain central to effective design, and she encourages aspiring designers to pursue opportunities, volunteer their talents, advocate for themselves, and remain persistent through rejection.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Monica

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to persistence, collaboration, adaptability, continuous learning, and advocating for myself. I understand that design is highly competitive, so I do not let rejection discourage me. Volunteering, pursuing opportunities, and continually developing my skills have helped me build a diverse career across multiple industries.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come through my longtime mentor, Deanna, who began mentoring me in college. She helped me secure my first professional opportunity, later hired me for freelance design work, and eventually referred me to my current company. Her guidance and support have shaped my career and grown into a friendship that has lasted nearly 20 years.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage aspiring designers to seek opportunities wherever they can, including volunteer and pro bono work that builds experience and showcases their abilities. Be proactive about approaching organizations that may need design support rather than waiting for the perfect opportunity. Most importantly, don’t take rejection personally, and always advocate for yourself in this competitive industry.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I see artificial intelligence as both a major challenge and opportunity for designers. While AI can increasingly generate creative content and visual concepts, designers bring something technology cannot fully replicate: human connection, collaboration, and a personal understanding of clients’ needs. I believe learning to work alongside emerging technology will be essential to the future of the design profession.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value creativity, collaboration, continuous learning, community involvement, personal connection, and giving back. I believe great design is about more than creating attractive visuals—it is about understanding people, communicating effectively, and creating work that serves its audience. Outside of work, I enjoy solo hiking, yoga, cooking, exploring national and state parks, and experimenting with cocktail recipes. I’ve visited approximately 28 national parks and look forward to exploring more.
