01What do you attribute your success to?
I think one of the biggest factors that shaped me was being given a great deal of responsibility at a very young age. Looking back, I don't see many children today being given the same level of independence. I remember taking care of my younger brother by myself when I was only eight years old. Today, many parents don't feel comfortable leaving teenagers home alone. Times have certainly changed, but I believe those early responsibilities helped me mature much faster. By the time I was 10 years old, I felt like I had the mindset of someone who was 14. My parents entrusted me with responsibilities early in life, and that taught me independence, accountability, and confidence. I also started working at a young age. At 14, I worked at a rectory scheduling weddings and funerals. At 16, while I was still in high school, I worked at as a Bank Teller. When I went to college, I continued working part-time while attending school. Balancing school and work taught me discipline and gave me a deep appreciation for everything I had. It also reinforced the values my parents instilled in me—hard work, responsibility, and commitment. I've tried to pass those same values on to my own daughter by giving her age-appropriate responsibilities, although I recognize it's a very different world today. Even so, I believe my upbringing made me work harder, appreciate opportunities more, and always strive to do my best. It taught me to be accountable, dependable, and committed to doing quality work because I never wanted to let others—or myself—down.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I ever received was to treat every role as if you're already preparing for the next one. Don't limit yourself to the responsibilities listed in your job description. Instead, look for opportunities to solve problems, improve processes, and make the people around you more successful. That advice has stayed with me throughout my career. Whether I was balancing school and part-time jobs as a teenager or managing complex legal operations in the biopharmaceutical industry today, I've always tried to take ownership of my work, be accountable, and look for ways to add value beyond what is expected. In legal operations, success isn't just about managing contracts or ensuring compliance—it's about building relationships, creating efficient processes, and anticipating challenges before they become problems. Approaching every opportunity with that mindset has helped me grow professionally and has earned the trust of my colleagues and business partners. Ultimately, I've learned that your reputation is built on consistency. If people know they can rely on you to deliver quality work, communicate openly, and follow through on your commitments, opportunities will naturally follow.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to prioritize education and pursue a career that genuinely inspires them and brings them fulfillment every day, rather than choosing a path solely based on their parents’ expectations or the opinions of others. I believe it is important to become independent, build a strong career, and develop the confidence and financial stability to create your own path. I also encourage women to never stop learning and growing, whether through advanced education, professional certifications, industry organizations, or networking with other women who can offer guidance and inspiration. There is always an opportunity to continue developing your skills, learning from others, and advancing professionally. Most importantly, choose a career you truly enjoy, because finding fulfillment in the work you do can make all the difference in building a successful and meaningful life.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field and at the same time, one of the greatest opportunities in legal operations today is keeping pace with the rapid growth of the business while maintaining strong compliance and efficient processes. In the biopharmaceutical industry, the legal team is expected to support innovation, accelerate contracting, and manage increasing regulatory requirements, all while operating with limited resources. Technology, particularly AI and contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems, presents a tremendous opportunity to transform how legal teams work. By automating routine tasks, standardizing processes, and improving data visibility, legal operations can reduce administrative burdens and allow attorneys to focus on more strategic, high-value work. However, adopting these tools thoughtfully is critical to ensure data privacy, regulatory compliance, and appropriate governance.
Another important opportunity is strengthening collaboration across departments. Legal operations is no longer just a support function—we play a strategic role in connecting Legal with Procurement, Finance, Compliance, Commercial, and other business teams. By improving communication, sharing best practices, and creating more efficient workflows, we can help the business move faster while effectively managing risk. Ultimately, I believe the future of legal operations lies in being proactive rather than reactive-leveraging technology, continuously improving processes, and building strong partnerships that enable the business to achieve its goals while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and integrity.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me, both professionally and personally, are respect, communication, accountability, and responsibility. I believe that mutual respect and open, honest communication are the foundation of strong relationships and high-performing teams. When communication is clear and transparent, it fosters trust, collaboration, and a shared understanding of goals, while reducing the potential for misunderstandings. I also believe that effective leadership plays a critical role in an individual's professional growth and overall job satisfaction. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with leaders who have supported my development, encouraged me to expand my skills, and challenged me to continuously improve. Their mentorship has reinforced my belief that great leadership can inspire employees to reach their full potential, while poor leadership can have the opposite effect.
Accountability and responsibility are values I hold myself to every day. I take pride in delivering high-quality work, following through on my commitments, and being someone my colleagues can depend on. In my personal life, I strive to live by these same principles by treating others with respect, communicating openly, and building meaningful, lasting relationships. I believe these values not only contribute to professional success but also strengthen the connections we make with those around us.
